The experience
Over two days in Chandor you'll learn the storyline behind Dekhnni — a dance said to portray a courtesan performing before a Portuguese nobleman — before working through its blend of classical Indian hand gestures and Western waltz-like steps. By the close you'll perform a short scene with Antonio's troupe.
Why this matters
Dekhnni is one of the clearest examples of Goa's cultural fusion, layering Hindu-influenced dance vocabulary over Western musical structure in a single performance.
Cultural background
Believed to have originated as courtly entertainment in Goa's Hindu temple towns before being absorbed into Portuguese-era social life, Dekhnni today survives mainly through tiatr (Konkani theatre) and cultural troupes.
