You'll take your seat in a Panjim playhouse as the house lights dim on a packed Konkani-speaking audience, many of whom have their favorite Tiatr troupes the way others follow football clubs. Anthony's play unfolds in acts broken up by his own comic 'kudd' interludes, songs and quick costume changes. Afterwards, he'll walk you backstage to see how a three-hour show is run from a single wing.
Tiatr has been Goa's dominant popular theatre form for over a century, giving Konkani-speaking audiences a stage for social commentary, comedy and music that no other medium in Goa quite replicates.
Tiatr emerged from Goan Catholic communities in the late 19th century, blending European operatic and musical influences with Konkani language and Goan humor, and remains a thriving commercial theatre circuit today.

Will I understand the play without knowing Konkani?
Yes, you'll get an English synopsis beforehand, and the physical comedy and songs carry a lot on their own.
Is this a folk performance or a professional one?
Tiatr is a professional commercial theatre circuit, this is a real box-office show, not a staged demonstration.
“The comic timing had the whole hall roaring even before I understood the punchlines.”
