Zagor: A Night of Village Ritual Theatre

Loutolim, Goa· 1 night· group

The experience

As dusk falls over Loutolim, you'll settle into the village square with Diogo's neighbours, Hindu and Christian alike, for a night-long performance blending devotional ritual, comic sketches and folk theatre. The Gauddo clown character will likely have you laughing before the ritual scenes turn solemn again.

Why this matters

Zagor is one of the few performance traditions in India still jointly staged by Hindu and Christian villagers, reflecting Goa's history of shared, overlapping religious calendars in a single community event.

Cultural background

Performed overnight in village squares, Zagor mixes invocations to local deities with satirical sketches on contemporary village life, traditionally organised jointly by the village's Hindu and Christian residents.
