Morning asana.
image1 / 4A three-week residential teacher-training course at the Shiva Yoga shala in Arambol, on Goa's northern coast. The course follows a traditional Hatha–Ashtanga lineage, structured around the four padas of yoga practice (yama/niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara/dharana/dhyana) and includes the anatomy, philosophy and teaching-methodology components expected of a Yoga-Alliance-aligned 200-hour TTC. Mornings open with a long asana session; afternoons combine lectures and practicum; evenings are pranayama, meditation and self-practice. The shala has run residential TTCs in Arambol since the early 2000s and accepts a small group each intake, with shared accommodation on site.
A residential TTC is not a yoga holiday. Living, eating and practising in the same place for three weeks — with the same teachers and the same cohort — is the actual training environment, and it's what makes the certificate meaningful.
Arambol has been a centre for yoga and meditation on Goa's northern coast since the 1960s, with a steady lineage of visiting teachers and resident schools. Shiva Yoga (the school) is one of the longer-established shalas here, teaching a Hatha–Ashtanga syllabus with strong emphasis on pranayama and mantra.
