Garba is the women's folk-dance of the Gujarati community of Chandigarh, performed at the Navaratri festival. The dance is associated with the cultural and the social life of the Gujarati women of the union territory and is performed at the central courtyard of the host. The form is regularly performed at the cultural programmes of the union territory and at the regional Gujarati community festivals of Chandigarh.
Garba is performed by women of the Gujarati community of Chandigarh in a circle at the central courtyard of the host or at the open ground of the Navaratri festival. The women perform in coordinated circular steps to the song of the Garba cycle and to the rhythm of the dhol and the shehnai. The dance is energetic, with the women's twirling and the circular motion of the Garba tradition. Costume is the colourful chaniya-choli with the heavy jewellery of the Gujarati tradition. Performances are at the central courtyard and at the cultural programmes of the union territory.
