Chandigarh was built as a modernist experiment, but the culture inside it is unmistakably Punjabi — Baisakhi and Lohri are marked with the same Bhangra circles and community kitchens found across the wider region, just inside a very different skyline.

The city's Rock Garden, built entirely from industrial and household waste over decades by one self-taught artist, is its own answer to what craft can look like without any traditional material at all.
