In Kutch, one of the driest regions in India, communities responded to scarcity by making some of the most intricate textiles in the world — Bandhani tie-dye, mirror-work embroidery, block printing.

The desert itself is part of the experience: the white salt flats of the Rann, the camel-herding Rabari community, and craft villages where a single embroidered textile can take a woman months to finish.
