The Dangi (or Dangi Bhil) are an Adivasi community of the Dangs district in southern Gujarat, a forested hill district bordering Maharashtra. The Dangs is one of the most tribal districts of Gujarat, with a large Bhil and other Adivasi population, and the Dangi community is one of the Scheduled Tribes listed for Gujarat. The Dangi folk dance tradition is preserved at village-level through community gatherings across the district and at cultural events of the state's tribal welfare programmes.
Dangi dance is performed by community groups of men and women at village fairs, religious occasions and harvest celebrations, accompanied by traditional percussion and song in the Dangi (or Bhili) language. Like most Bhil tribal dances of the region, the choreography is celebratory and collective — line and circle formations, hand-clapping, and improvised solo flourishes within a group structure. Costume is the everyday dress of the Dangi community, ornamented with traditional silver jewellery and beaded headgear.
