The men's folk-dance of the central Punjab — performed at the central courtyard of the host, in the regional tradition of the central Punjab (Haryana-Punjab) of Chandigarh.
Understand
Luddia is the men's folk-dance of the central Punjab (Haryana-Punjab) region of Chandigarh, performed at the central courtyard of the host. The dance is associated with the social and the cultural life of the men of the central Punjab of the union territory and is performed at the celebration of the wedding and the harvest. The form is regularly performed at the cultural programmes of the union territory and at the regional community festivals of Chandigarh.
Luddia is performed by men of the central Punjab community of Chandigarh in a circle at the central courtyard of the host or at the open ground of the festival. The men dance in vigorous steps to the song of the Luddia cycle and to the rhythm of the dhol and the dholak. The dance is energetic, with the men's lunges and the small steps of the central Punjab tradition. Costume is the everyday central Punjab dress — the dhoti-kurta with the colourful turban. Performances are at the central courtyard and at the cultural programmes of the union territory.
