Jagadeesh Naik practises Hase Chittara, a traditional folk art of the Deevaru community from the Malnad region of Uttara Kannada and Shivamogga in Karnataka. He learned the craft from his family, starting at the age of 20, and has spent the last six years refining the fine-line, symmetrical patterns and geometric compositions at the heart of the tradition. Hase Chittara has long been used to decorate homes and ceremonial spaces during weddings, festivals, and other auspicious occasions — for Jagadeesh, it remains a living connection to his family, culture, and heritage. He has taught the practice to around 20 people through informal sessions and demonstrations, and continues to exhibit his work at cultural programmes and art events. In 2025, he won third prize at a state-level Hase Chittara competition.
