A handmade metal mirror from the village of Aranmula, polished to reflect from its front surface rather than through glass.
Understand
Aranmula Kannadi is made by a small group of artisan families in Aranmula, Pathanamthitta, whose alloy recipe has been passed down within the community; the mirror carries a geographical-indication tag.
Artisans cast a disc from a closely guarded copper-tin alloy in clay moulds, then spend days hand-polishing it until the surface becomes a clear, distortion-free mirror.
