Hand-painted and block-printed cotton textiles coloured with natural dyes.
Understand
Kalamkari is practised in two main styles — the pen-drawn Srikalahasti style and the block-printed Machilipatnam style — both carrying geographical-indication tags.
Artisans treat cotton with myrobalan and milk, then draw or block-print designs and fill colours from plant dyes, washing and treating the cloth repeatedly.
