Mamita is the women's dance of the Tripuri people of Tripura, performed at the regional festivals and at the community celebrations. The dance is one of the documented women's traditions of the Tripuri community and is associated with the celebration of the harvest. The form is regularly performed at the cultural programmes of the state and at the regional Tripuri community festivals.
Mamita is performed by women of the Tripuri community in a circle at the central courtyard of the village or at the open ground of the festival. The women perform in coordinated steps to the song of the Mamita cycle and to the rhythm of the dhol and the small flutes. The dance is gentle, with the small stepping rhythm of the Tripuri tradition. Costume is the traditional Tripuri dress — the colourful rignai (the women's wrap-skirt) and the regional shawl. Performances are at the village festival and at the cultural programmes of the state.
