Owa is a dance form of the Tipra / Tripuri people of Tripura, performed at the Owa festival of the village deity. The form is one of the documented regional dance traditions of Tripura and is associated with the worship of the Owa (the four-headed deity of the Tipra court tradition). The dance is regularly performed at the cultural programmes of the state.
Owa is performed by men of the Tripuri community in a circle at the central courtyard of the village or at the open ground of the festival. The men perform in coordinated steps to the song of the Owa cycle and to the rhythm of the dhol and the small cymbals. The dance is gentle, with the small stepping rhythm of the Tripuri tradition. Costume is the traditional Tripuri dress — the dhoti-kurta with the small regional cap. Performances are at the Owa festival and at the cultural programmes of the state.
