Sangrai is the royal-court dance of the Tripuri people of Tripura, performed at the Garia Puja of the royal-court tradition. The dance is associated with the court-music tradition of the Tripuri kings (the Manikya dynasty of Agartala). The form is one of the documented regional traditions of the state and is regularly performed at the cultural programmes of Tripura.
Sangrai is performed by men and women of the Tripuri community in a circle at the central courtyard of the village or at the open ground of the festival. The men and women perform in coordinated steps to the song of the Sangrai cycle and to the rhythm of the dhol and the small flutes. The dance is gentle, with the small stepping rhythm of the Tripuri court tradition. Costume is the traditional Tripuri dress — the colourful rignai and the men's dhoti-kurta. Performances are at the Garia Puja festival and at the cultural programmes of the state.
