Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh holds more distinct tribal cultures in one state than most countries hold in total — Adi, Nyishi, Apatani, Monpa, Wancho and dozens more, each with its own festival calendar, dialect and craft.

Monpa communities still make paper and Thangka paintings by hand near ancient monasteries, while further down the valleys bamboo and cane are worked into everything from houses to jewellery, the material never far from the maker.
