Ghode Modni

Practised in Goa

One of Goa's living performing-art traditions.

Where it comes from

Ghode Modni is a warrior dance from north Goa, associated with the Rane chieftains of Sattari, that recalls the region's martial past during the Shigmo season.

How it's practiced

Each dancer wears a decorated wooden horse frame around the waist and wields a sword, prancing and turning in formation as if riding into battle, driven by fast drumming.
