Where it comes from

Romta Mel is the travelling procession at the heart of Shigmo — village troupes moving from house to house and temple to temple, carrying the festival through the community.

How it's practiced

Performers in bright costume walk behind tall banners and ceremonial umbrellas to the beat of dhol and tasha drums, stopping to sing, dance and receive offerings along the way.
