Where Mizo Rallu (Mizo folk cycle) comes from

Mizo Rallu is the general community-dance of the Mizo people, performed at the harvest-celebration (the Chapchar Kut) and at the social gatherings of the Mizo village. The dance is the Mizo community's central social-dance form and is one of the documented regional dance traditions of Mizoram. The Rallu is performed by men and women in a circle (or in two facing rows) at the central courtyard of the village, with the central singer leading the Mizo songs and the community dancing in coordinated steps. The form is regularly performed at the cultural programmes of the state and at the regional Mizo community festivals.

How it's practiced

Mizo Rallu is performed by men and women of the Mizo community in a circle (or in two facing rows) at the central courtyard of the village. The men and women dance in coordinated steps to the song of the Rallu cycle and to the rhythm of the khuang (drum) and the small cymbals. The dance is gentle, with the men and women performing the small stepping rhythm of the Mizo tradition. Costume is the everyday Mizo dress — the puandum and the small regional head-cloth. Performances are at the courtyard and at the cultural programmes of the state.
