Why you'll love it

  • Make three Goan breads: poie, katre pav and kakon
  • Inside a working family bakery, not a demo kitchen
  • Eat your bread straight from the oven
  • Two relaxed hours on a Saturday evening

What you'll do

Goa's breakfast runs on bread. The poder — the village baker — still cycles the lanes at dawn, and every Goan has a favourite: hollow, wheat-bran poie; katre pav, the 'scissor-cut' roll; and kakon, the crisp bangle bread.

In this two-hour Saturday session Shaeen Gomes opens the doors of a family bakery in Ribandar. You'll mix and knead, learn the shapes by hand, and watch them come out of the oven — then sit down to eat what you made. A warm, hands-on way to understand Goa through its most everyday craft.
