Chang Lo is the harvest dance of the Chang Naga tribe of Nagaland, performed at the village festival and at the wedding cycle of the community. The dance is one of the documented regional traditions of the Chang Naga and is associated with the celebration of the new harvest. The form is regularly performed at the cultural programmes of the state and at the regional Chang Naga festivals.
Chang Lo is performed by men and women of the Chang Naga community in a circle at the central courtyard of the village or at the open ground of the festival. The men and women perform in coordinated steps to the song of the Chang Lo cycle and to the rhythm of the small regional instruments. The dance is gentle, with the small stepping rhythm of the Chang tradition. Costume is the everyday Chang Naga dress — the lungi, the small regional shawl. Performances are at the courtyard and at the cultural programmes of the state.
