The Fugdi of DNH is the women's folk-dance of the Konkani-Marathi community of the Daman and Diu region, performed at the social gatherings of the community. The Fugdi is the regional adaptation of the Konkani-Fugdi tradition (the women's dance of the Konkan coast and Goa) and is associated with the celebration of the social life of the women. The form is one of the documented regional traditions of DNH and is regularly performed at the cultural programmes of the union territory.
The Fugdi of DNH is performed by women of the Konkani-Marathi community in a circle at the central courtyard of the village or at the open ground of the festival. The women perform in coordinated clapping steps to the song of the Fugdi cycle, without any musical instrument. The dance is gentle, with the small stepping rhythm of the Konkani tradition. Costume is the colourful Konkani sari (the sade or the nav-vari) with the regional jewellery. Performances are at the central courtyard and at the cultural programmes of the union territory.
