The Koli dance of DNH is the folk-dance of the Koli fishing-community of Daman and Diu, performed at the social gatherings of the community. The Koli are one of the principal fishing communities of the western Indian coast and have their own cultural and the social traditions. The dance is one of the documented regional traditions of DNH and is regularly performed at the cultural programmes of the union territory.
The Koli dance of DNH is performed by men and women of the Koli community in a circle at the central courtyard of the village or at the open ground of the festival. The men and women perform in coordinated steps to the song of the Koli cycle and to the rhythm of the dhol and the small regional instruments. The dance is gentle, with the small stepping rhythm of the Koli tradition. Costume is the everyday Koli dress — the colourful sari for the women and the dhoti for the men. Performances are at the central courtyard and at the cultural programmes of the union territory.
